Bringing Jesus to the Nations

Zach and Heidi in AlaskaMy wife and I recently went to Alaska, to talked to individuals she knew and churches she had grown up in. We were blessed to be able to meet with many people and share our ministry.  We had the chance to walk around the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF)while we were there. My wife was showing me the campus she grew up around because her dad was a professor there. I saw a sight that helped me understand in a bigger way why college ministry is so important to the kingdom of God. It was a fact that hasn't hit me before, in this way. I now understand at a deeper level why God has called me to campus ministry.

As I was walking around UAF I saw a whole bunch of flags from about 60 different countries lining the walls of the commons. At first I was wondering why they were all there. It was then explained to me that the flags represent all the students that have come to UAF from different countries. As I looked around at all of them I thought, "How cool!"

It hit me like a ton of bricks. All I could think about was how many students could be reached around the world through discipleship that started on a college campus (2 Timothy 2:2 Says,"And what you have heard from them in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also."). I'm so honored that God would bless me with such an opportunity to reach the world from one location. Not only do I get to reach American students, but other countries as well.

As I continued to ponder these thoughts I began to think about the world.  Most countries aren't sending over impoverished students, but ones that come from families in leadership positions within the country. Positions that over time can affect the infrastructure of a country. Just think for a minute what kind of affect that can have on the world for Christ's sake. It means we send individuals back home with a new found and/or stronger belief in Christ. Meaning we are constantly sending missionaries places about every one to four years. I think that is amazing.

Flags of different countries at UAFIn college ministry we can impact multiple countries for Christ from one location.  I can't be in all of these countries at once, but I can share Christ with those around me and train them to share as well.  They take God's word in their heart back home with them to hopefully develop leaders and missionaries who will be working for the cause of Christ where ever they go.

Not sure what you are thinking about right now but this is where my mind is at. Take a look at this picture and maybe it will fire you up for the cause of Christ and the call He gives in Matthew 28:18-20 - Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

God bless,
